The Council was honoured to be asked by the RDCK to create a Food Security Action Plan for the region, in response to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on our food security as a region and in our households. The Action Plan includes an Implementation Plan that identifies the many actors and actions that need to be galvanized in order to achieve the vision of a food-secure Central Kootenay.

This year at our Annual General Meeting, we welcomed four new members, each of whom is deeply involved in fostering a strong, resilient Central Kootenay foodshed: Anneke Rosch, Nyree Marsh, Rachael Roussin, and Valerie Cowan.

Few consider bees when taking that bite of delicious food. Despite the fact that they are invisible to most, the vast majority of land-based foods consumed by humans on the planet owe their existence to bees. Whether they are domestic or wild, bees are vital members of the community of those who labour to enable us all to eat.

On Thursday May 13th, we held our AGM for 2020. This year’s virtual meeting wove together stories of our work from the past year with enriching folktales performed by Kaslo, BC based spoken word artist Shayna Jones.

For most of us, particularly if you are not a business owner, policy is not something that we tend to pay attention to because there is seemingly no need. However, just like your little toe, when you stub it and it becomes painfully obvious that you have one, policy erupts into one’s consciousness when it hurts.

Mark your calendars! Our Annual General Meeting is on Thursday May 13th from 10-12pm PDT. This online AGM will weave together our regular AGM business with vignettes performed by Kaslo, BC based spoken word artist Shayna Jones. Our AGM is open to anyone who is interested in attending.
