Celebrating our Storytelling AGM

On Thursday May 13th, we held our AGM for 2020.  This year’s virtual meeting wove together stories of our work from the past year with enriching folktales performed by Kaslo, BC based spoken word artist Shayna Jones.

Twenty people attended the meeting, including Executive and Council Members as well as several people who were new to the Council’s work. In addition to hearing about the challenges and successes of the past year, we also looked ahead and were excited to welcome four new Council members!

Shayna Jones gave several captivating and inspiring storytelling performances throughout the meeting. She shared African and Afro-Diasporic folklore and mesmerized everyone in attendance with the depth and dynamism of her storytelling.

One of our Council members commented: “I just wanted to say thanks for a fantastic AGM! The storytelling was amazing, the presentations were engaging, and it was all in all a great way to spend a couple of hours. Thanks so much to everyone who contributed to making it what it was.”

A first-time attendee commented:  “I was impressed listening to the meeting, learned so much, and am so grateful there are people dedicated to this kind of work. I can see for myself, just from this meeting, that it is essential.”

We are grateful to all who participated in our annual meeting and look forward to the year ahead, supported by partners and by our new and returning Council members.
