The Food Policy Council was in close contact with the Emergency Operations Centre of the RDCK in the early months of the pandemic. As the year progressed, the Council was invited to submit a proposal to research and create an Interim Food Security Action Plan for the Central Kootenay.
Read the Food Security Action Plan final report (PDF) – Updated July 2021.
The Action Plan includes an Implementation Plan that identifies the many actors and actions that need to be galvanized in order to achieve the vision of a food-secure Central Kootenay. Check out the Implementation Plan (PDF) and see what actions you can be a part of moving forward.
The work is focused on three main areas:
- Food Access: monitoring and supporting emergency food suppliers to access to sufficient supplies to meet their local need;
- Food Literacy: working with key partners to share knowledge and resources related to the regional and global food system;
- Food Economies: drawing on various data sources and networks to understand and address the needs of area food producers so that we can retain and strengthen the food economies of the Central Kootenay
