Drawing inspiration from our work in 2020 with artist, Mercedes Minck, we are excited to launch our Exploring Food Systems Through the Arts program.
We have secured a generous grant from the Kootenay Coop, who are challenging other area funders to match their $2500. With the funds raised, we will hire local artists – in any medium – to create unique works of art that explore various themes related to food systems and food policy. We will launch the program once we have hit our initial goal of $10,000.
The artists will comprise a group of 8-10 artists from various disciplines (Literary, Dance, Media Arts, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts) who live and work in the Central Kootenay region. They will be a mix of emerging and established artists and will reflect the diversity of the Central Kootenay region, and will include Indigenous artists, artists of colour, artists with diverse abilities, non-binary artists and 2SLGBTQ+ artists. We shall be integrating this partnership with local artists as part of our ongoing Food Systems Literacy Program. We recognize that important contribution that the arts bring to education, to celebration, to culture, and to our local community.
