Montana Burgess is the West Kootenay EcoSociety’s Executive Director. She is a white settler living on the unceeded and stolen land of the Sinixt Peoples. Montana uses she/her, or they/them pronouns are fine to use too. Montana grew up in Kamloops, BC where her parents ran a local cafe. She has worked in the environmental non-profit sector for over a decade at the international, national, provincial and now regional level. At the EcoSociety, Montana has overseen the successful running of 40+ farmers’ markets each year and has launched a new program Farms to Friends to connect households left behind by unfair systems with fresh food from local farmers. She is privileged to have a large food garden and six chickens with names like Pinchacott and Duckwater, named by her 3 year old. Montana believes that all people deserve to have clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, and healthy food to eat.
