Marya has been working on food security projects in the Central Kootenay since 2002. Much of that time was spent leading the evolution of the Nelson Food Cupboard to a full-fledged Community Food Centre with multiple programs that support community members, particularly those living in poverty, with access to food and skills development. She has also managed fundraising, organizational development and consultation projects for community-based organizations and the City of Nelson. Marya is drawn to work that has a tangible positive impact on people’s well-being and that of the environment. Outside of work, Marya loves to cook, garden, chat with farmers, seek out great food from its source, and create ways for people to gather around food.
