Leah has lived in the Slocan Valley since June 1971, settling in Silverton in 1981. She believes passionately in community building and social justice, and is serving her fifth consecutive term on Silverton Council. She was first appointed to the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) Board in 2011; and is beginning her sixth year representing the RDCK on the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Board of Directors. Leah has been active in many community organizations over the years, including the Slocan Lake Gallery Society, Goat Mountain School, Slocan Lake Stewardship Society, Rosebery Parklands, several community choirs, and is currently a member of the New Denver/Silverton area Community Covid Action Team, which has focused on food security, mental health, and helping the business community deploy the recommended public health measures. She has worked at “whatever was available” in order to remain in this beautiful part of the world, specializing in education, graphic design, computer services, journalism and music, having performed with her partner Michael Dorsey since 1975. She is also an avid gardener, cook and birder and feels blessed to live in this beautiful part of the world.
